Crowne Plaza Zurich: Where Elegance Meets Comfort – A Hotel Review

If you are visiting Switzerland and looking for a convenient hotel in Zurich, then hotel Crowne Plaza Zurich might be a great place to book for your accommodation regardless if you are travelling for business or leisure to Zurich.

The Crowne Plaza Zurich is a 4-star hotel located in the trendy Zurich West district. This was the most luxurious hotel that we stood at as part of our Interrail trip around Europe! The hotel has a fitness centre and a spa, perfect for relaxation and wellness.

The hotel is conveniently located near public transportation, making it easy to explore the city. The Wi-Fi was excellent with great coverage in the room, lobby and restaurant. Breakfast was delicious and a real highlight from our stay.

Why We Chose Crowne Plaza Zurich

In terms of accommodation, we would recommend booking your accommodation through an aggregator such as Booking.com or Agoda to get the best rates.

On this occasion, however, we booked this hotel directly through the hotel’s website as we got an offer we couldn’t resist. Using our American Express Platinum Cashback Credit Card, we managed to save 25% through a cashback offer.

We chose Crowne Plaza Zurich, due to the following reasons:

  • Cashback offer via American Express
  • Convenient location – great transport links to the city and the train station
  • OK reviews on TripAdvisor
  • Although over our budget, it came across as a good value for money hotel

Overall, we had a great experience and wished we had one more night at the hotel. The hotel was clean, the bed was comfortable, the room was spacious (especially in comparison to our hotel room in Paris), breakfast was excellent and we felt it was a good value for money for a hotel in Zurich.

We share more about our experience below.

How to Get To Crowne Plaza Zurich

The hotel is located in the Zurich West district. Although it’s not a central hotel, there are fast routes to the heart of the city. The nearby tram stop is just five minutes walk from the hotel and you can reach Zurich Old Town in 10 minutes.

If you are travelling from Zurich Airport (ZRH), you can reach the hotel in 15 minutes by car or 30 minutes using public transport. As we travelled by train, we stopped at the Hardbruecke train station and then walked to the hotel.

If you drive, you can enjoy easy access to the A1, A2 and A3 motorways, as well as secure hotel parking (daily rates apply).

Having a central hotel wasn’t a priority for us as we got the Zurich Card and public transport was included.

Check-in Experience

We had a smooth check in experience and felt the customer service was to a high standard, as expected. The receptionist welcomed us to the hotel and quickly processed our information.

He explained everything we needed to know about the hotel and provided more information about the breakfast service and the facilities that the hotel offers.

As we arrived late at night from Lucerne, we decided to go straight to our room.

Lobby

The lobby of the hotel is actually quite nice, bright and spacious. You have plenty of seating areas to choose from. The furniture is soft and comfortable and feels nice to the touch.

Flavoured water is available in the lobby area, opposite reception, which was a nice touch. Alternatively, you can grab a drink from the lobby bar.

Definitely a good representation of the lobby of a high end hotel.

Hotel Room

The hotel offers 365 rooms to choose from. We booked a 1 Queen Bed Standard (18 m²) for 2 nights.

Our room was spacious and the bed was comfortable and offered a good night sleep. We also had a number of pillows to choose from which was also nice.

The room had international plug adaptors and free fast Wi-Fi. Having the international plug adaptors was very much welcomed as the Swiss sockets were type J and our travel adapter didn’t fit in. We discovered this at our hotel in Bern – prizeotel Bern-City, and had to spend hours at the lobby charging our gadgets.

On each side of the bed there were bedside tables. A desk and a chair and a flat screen TV were also available. You can see the hotel is targeting business travellers as the desk offers a great opportunity to comfortably do some work from the room.

As you enter the room, you have wardrobe space. The wardrobe area wasn’t too spacious but offered enough shelf space and hangers. There was also a large mirror which was nice.

Tea and coffee making facilities were also available, although we didn’t take advantage of these. It was nice to see a mini bar and a safe deposit box available in the room too.

The modern rooms are perfect for a city break or a business trip to Zurich and we were happy with our choice.

Bathroom

The bathroom was a decent size, not small but not large either. It was clean and with a walk in shower, large mirror, vanity mirror and towels.

Shampoo, body wash and soap were available from a dispenser. No other toiletries were provided.

I personally liked the rainfall shower and the additional flexible hand-held shower head. As expected, a hair dryer was also available.

The bathroom was separated from the room by a sliding door.

Spa and Fitness Centre

Within the hotel, you will find Holmes Place Health Club offering great spa and fitness facilities to the hotel guests. We were truly impressed by the size of the health centre as this is not something you usually see in hotels.

The opening times are also very convinient meaning you can visit the facilities early in the morning or at the end of the day after exploring the city.

In addition to the heated indoors swimming pool, you can also enjoy some time in the jacuzzi (whirlpool) and relax in the sauna. As you know from our article about Therme Bucharest, we love a good sauna and didn’t miss the chance to check the hotel’s sauna as well.

We also enjoyed some quiet time in the spa area. We went early in the morning (6:30am – 7:30am) and there was almost no one in there. It felt like the whole space is for us. This was a great start of our day!

Breakfast at Crowne Plaza Zurich

The breakfast at the hotel exceeded our expectations. By far, this was the best breakfast during our Interrail trip around Europe and in a way reminded us of the amazing breakfast we had at Hotel Malibu in Mamaia, Romania.

We enjoyed the breakfast and felt there was a good variety of hot and cold food and drinks. Scrambled eggs, omelettes, sausages, bacon etc. all looked and tasted good. Paul enjoyed some freshly made omelettes from the live cooking station.

Muesli, cereals were offered as standard. There was a great selection of fruits, fresh watermelon, pastries and delicious sweet treats which we enjoyed very much and sampled with pleasure.

A great variety of cold meats, smoked salmon, selection of cheeses, vegetables etc. were available and nicely presented in the cold section of the buffet.

In terms of drinks, a few coffee machines was available with freshly ground coffee and a selection of espresso, americano, cappuccino, latte etc. You can see how sleepy I look on the photo, the coffee was strong as I like it and really helped me wake up 😉

If you prefer tea, a selection of teas was also available. Still and sparkling water and a variety of fresh juices to choose from were also available.

The restaurant was spacious and modern-looking with plenty of space to choose from. Similar to the lobby bar, you could find high tables and high chairs available at the restaurant as well.

Loved the terrace and as the weather was nice, we enjoyed breakfast outside.

Final Thoughts

If you are wondering which hotel to stay in, Crowne Plaza Zurich might be a good place to book for your business or leisure accommodation in Zurich.

All in all, we enjoyed the hotel, amenities and the facilities and we would stay here again. For travellers like us, the room was a good size, fairly modern and contemporary. The delicious breakfast and the spa area were a real highlight!
