Why We Chose Ramada Bell Tower Hotel Xi’An

In terms of accommodation, we would recommend booking your hotel through an aggregator such as Booking.com or Trip.com to get the best rates. On this occasion, and for all hotels in China, we booked our hotel in Xi’An via Trip.com.

During our city breaks, we tend to sleep at the hotel, have breakfast and be out and about all day, so we weren’t after luxury accommodation but wanted a hotel with central location and laundry facilities.

We chose Ramada Bell Tower Hotel Xi’An, due to the following reasons:

  • Great location – walking distance to attractions and easy transport links
  • Good reviews on Trip.com and free cancellation
  • Laundry facilities
  • Value for money hotel in Xi’An

Overall, we had a good experience and would happily return to this hotel. The hotel was clean, the suite was spacious, the bed was comfortable, breakfast was great and we felt it was a good value for money for a hotel in central Xi’An. We share more about our experience below.

Check-in Experience

The reception desk is by the main entrance. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful although there was a language barrier.

We booked a Superior Double Room where we stood the first night and for the rest of the stay we got an upgrade to a Business Suite. We had to check out from one room, store our luggage at reception and after explring Xi’An, we checked in to the suite.

Although there was a bit of inconvenience, we got to stay in two different rooms and share our experience and impressions from both, so you can make the right choice what room type to choose.

Lobby

The lobby area is rather cosy. There are tall armchairs which are very comfortable and a centrepiece chandelier.

Through the lobby, you can go to the hotel’s gym and laundry room. There was something like a cafe or tea place but this wasn’t opened in the mornings or in the evenings when we were at the hotel.

Superior Double Room Overview

We spent the first night in the Superior Double Room (30 square metres).

The room was spacious and the bed and pillows were comfortable and offered a good night sleep. After a 12-hour flight from London to Beijing and a 4-hour train ride from Beijing to Xi’An, this is all we needed and cared about.

We had a sofa, round table with a chair and a desk.

We didn’t get to use much of the sofa, but it was comfortable. If we needed to do some work, then the table would have been perfect for it.

There was a wardrobe by the main door with a safe. I was surprised to see bathrobes, which was a very nice touch. The hotel also provides slippers as well as disposable slippers.

As you enter the room, on the left side you have the sink with lots of toiletries including toothbrush and toothpaste, hair comb, vanity kit, shower cap, soap and hand lotion. This is where the hair dryer is too.

The bathroom and the toilet are separate from each other. The shower room was OK but the toilet felt too narrow.

The usual shower gel, shampoo and body lotion were provided and I liked the rainfall shower as well as the handheld shower.

Business Suite Overview

The last two nights we spent in the Business Suite (58 square metres) which was essentially a spacious one-bedroom flat. We absolutely loved it! We had a separate bedroom, living room, wardrobe area and a massive bathroom with a bathtub as well as a second toilet.

Bedroom

The bedroom was spacious and the bed and pillows were comfortable and offered a good night sleep. In addition, we had a comfortable sofa, a coffee table, bed bench and a flat screen TV.

From the bedroom you have a direct access to the bathroom and to the livingroom.

There was a wardrobe by the main door with a safe. There we had bathrobes, which was a very nice touch. The hotel also provides reusable slippers as well as disposable slippers.

Living Room

The living room was great and we spent a lot of time here in the evenings. We had a three seater sofa which was soft and comfortable. The armchairs were extra comfy too. In addition to the round coffee table, we also had another glass table and a chair.

The TV was rather small for the size of the livingroom but this wasn’t a problem for us as we didn’t even turn it on.

We also had a mini fridge and the usual coffee and tea making facilities. In the evenings we would sit down for a tea and reflect on our day exploring Xi’An and around.

Bathroom and Toilets

The bathroom was spacious and I really liked the bathtub. On the last night I decided to have a bath but was disappointed to see that the bathtub drain plug wasn’t working and the water was draining slowly.

Here you have the main sink with another large mirror and the usual toiletries including toothbrush and toothpaste, hair comb, vanity kit, shower cap, soap and hand lotion. This is where the hair dryer is too.

The shower room and the toilet were separate but right next to each other. I found the toilet to be too narrow. The usual shower gel, shampoo and body lotion were provided and I liked the rainfall shower as well as the handheld shower.

There was another toilet which was located right by the main door, so both Paul and I could have a toilet each 😀

Housekeeping attends the room daily, ensuring a clean and tidy living space throughout the stay.

All in all, whilst not the most modern room or suite, it was comfortable and spacious.

Although we had non-smoking rooms, you can smell the smoke in the corridor and throughout the hotel.

Breakfast at Ramada Bell Tower Hotel Xi’An

Overall the breakfast was great and filling and offered enough items to choose from to kick start your day. From all the hotels we stood at in China, this hotel offered the best breakfast in terms of food selection and taste.

Breakfast at the Ramada Bell Tower Hotel Xi’an is served buffet-style and is a blend of Chinese and Western cuisines, catering to diverse tastes. Breakfast is available daily from 6:30am to 9:30am, however if you are in a hurry, you can go a bit earlier as well.

There were 3 main food sections with hot food, live cooking and bread/pastiries and cereals.

From the local selection, you get a noodles station where you can get freshly cooked noodles. You can choose from two types of noodles and a variety of toppings so you can customise them to your own taste and preferences.

Of course, you get a selection of dumplings and steamed vegetables as well. I loved the sweet potato and corn (never thought I would have these for breakfast; it’s usually lunch food for me) and the variety of dumplings. There were also steamed peanuts which were a surprise for me.

There was a wide selection of greens, noodles and sliced meats including pork, duck, chicken etc. Fresh salad leaves and dressings were also available.

The Western-style buffet included sausages, beans, fries, chicken crispy strips and others.

The pastries and bread section were OK, can’t be compared to European pasties but there was a good variety. A few types of cereals were available as well as milk and yoghurts.

Coffee, tea and juices were available although we didn’t particularly like the coffee.

One thing we noticed, which is also common for other Chinese breakfasts, is that pure water is not availalbe at the buffet. At Ramada, we had to ask specifically for bottled water, otherwise this is not on offer. If you ask, they will always give you water, so don’t be shy.

Hotel Facilities at Ramada Bell Tower Hotel Xi’An

Laundry Room

Laundry facilities were key for us, as we travelled around China with limited luggage to allow us flexibility and ease to move around. The laundry room in the hotel is fitted with washer and dryer as well as detergent, iron and ironing board etc.

As I took the photo, brand new equipment was delivered to increase the capacity of washers and dryers.

Gym

The hotel features a small gym with a minigolf place. The gym is right next to the laundry room. Perhaps this is more catered to business guests and familiies.

We don’t really go to the gym, so this wasn’t of high importance for us but it’s good to know a gym is available.

Final Thoughts

We were really happy with our choice to stay at Ramada Bell Tower Hotel Xi’An and would certainly recommend this hotel.

This hotel is ideal for travelers looking for a blend of convenience, comfort, and affordability in the heart of Xi’an. Its proximity to major attractions, excellent service, and thoughtful amenities make it a strong choice for both leisure and business visitors.
