If you are visiting Italy and looking for a convenient hotel in Milan, then Windsor Hotel Milano might be a good place to book for your accommodation.
Windsor Hotel Milano offers comfortable rooms, good buffet breakfast and is conveniently located near public transportation, making it easy to explore the city. The Wi-Fi was pretty good as well with excellent coverage in the room, lobby and restaurant.
This combined with its affordable prices, make it a great value for budget-conscious travellers.
Why We Chose Windsor Hotel Milano
In terms of accommodation, we would recommend booking your accommodation through an aggregator such as Booking.com or Agoda to get the best rates. On this occasion, we booked our hotel in Milan via Booking.com.
During our city breaks, we tend to sleep at the hotel, have breakfast and be out and about all day, so we weren’t after luxury accommodation or one with a lot of amenities.
We chose Hotel Windsor in Milan, due to the following reasons:
- Good location – walking distance from the train station and minutes away from a metro and tram stops making it easy to explore the city
- Good reviews on TripAdvisor
- Fit our budget
- Value for money hotel in Milan
- Reminded us of our hotel in Lisbon
Overall, we had a good experience. The hotel was clean, the bed was comfortable, the room was spacious, breakfast was good and we felt it was a good value for money for a 4 star hotel in Milan. We share more about our experience below.
How to Get to Windsor Hotel Milano

If you are flying to Milan Malpensa Airport or Milan Bergamo Airport, you can reach the hotel in 45 minutes (if driving) or in just over 1 hour by public transport.
Windsor Hotel is near Milan’s Repubblica Metro Station and only 2 minutes away from a tram stop. Travelling around by public transport is easy, fast and convenient.
Milan’s public transport system operates on a unified ticketing system. You can purchase single-ride tickets or multiple-day passes, providing unlimited access to buses, trams, and the metro during the validity period. Read more about transport in Milan here.

Check-in Experience
The reception desk is right by the main entrance and first impressions were positive – clean, modern with a nice lobby area.
The check-in experience was really smooth, although our journey to Milan wasn’t. We travelled from Zurich to Milan but due to a train cancellation, we had to stay in Lugano for a night, so we missed the first night at the Windsor Hotel.
We arrived in the morning at the hotel and were greeted by the receptionist who provided a great customer service and explained all we needed to know about our stay. The team were understanding of our situation and we all laughed about our travel misfortune.
Straight after check-in we went for breakfast and then headed to the train station for our day trip to lake Como.
Lobby
The lobby of the hotel is actually quite nice, shiny and stylish. Just after reception, you have the lobby area with comfortable sofas and armchairs and a nice collection of books.
The design and style made it look rather posh. Great first impressions and certainly a welcoming lobby area.
One might say that the lobby also extends outside as there is a nice seating area by the main entrance of the hotel.
Hotel Room
We booked a double room for 3 nights but only ended up sleeping here for 2 nights. The room was spacious and the bed and pillows were comfortable and offered a good night sleep. During the day, the room got a lot of day light.
The room was furnished nicely and we loved the wooden finish and the contrast with the curtains.
In addition, we had bedside tables, a desk and a chair and a flat screen TV. If we needed to do some work, then the desk would have been perfect for it.
We also had a mini bar under the desk with still and sparkling water and soft drinks available at no extra charge.
The wardrobe was spacious with enough shelf space and hangers. There was a safe box inside the wardrobe.
Opposite the wardrobe we had additional hangers, luggage space and a full sized mirror.
To enter the room, you would need your key card which is scanned by the door. On the second night, we had an issue with the cards and none of our key cards were working.
We were able to use the cards for the lift but not for the room, so we had to go back in time and use an actual key to unlock and lock the door.

Bathroom
The bathroom was a good size but looked tired. There was a shower cabin, large mirror, vanity mirror, stool and towels. There was a toilet bowl as well as a bidet.
The usual shower gel, shampoo and soap were provided as well as a vanity kit and shower caps. For the first time I saw feminine care wash provided by a hotel.
We had a little issue with the shower as the water wasn’t draining quick enough. You can see from the photo that the bathroom was rather dated, so hopefully some refurbishment is on the way.
Breakfast at Windsor Hotel Milano
The on site Clotilde Bistrot serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bistro is opened to the general public as well but this is the main place where breakfast is served. Food was fresh and offered enough items to choose from to kick start your day.
The buffet breakfast was rich and generous: it offers both the classic Italian breakfast (croissant, coffee, cappuccino, different kinds of bread, yogurt, cereals, fresh fruit) and the best of the continental breakfast (selection of cold meats, cheeses and fresh juices). Different types of eggs, bacon and other hotel foods were also available.
Muesli and cereals were offered as standard. In terms of drinks, the usual tea, coffee, water and juices were available. The filter coffee was disgusting, they shouldn’t have even served this BUT you can order barista style coffee free of charge.
We had lots of cappuccinos, espressos and americanos made to order.
The ambience and the setting were great and the restaurant was very welcoming and so were all staff members.
When we went down for breakfast, we were greeted with a Pavarotti style Buon Giorno! Little did we know that all the people in this city are all glittering and radiant of happiness. And it does put a smile on your face before you even had your first sip of a delicious cappuccino.
Overall the breakfast exceeded our expectations. The food was but it was the atmosphere the friendly and polite staff members that made a real difference.
