Check-in Experience

We had a smooth check in experience and felt the customer service was to a high standard, as expected. The receptionist welcomed us to the hotel and quickly processed our information. We had checked-in online and there was less waiting and paperwork on the spot.

The receptionist explained everything we needed to know about the hotel and provided more information about the breakfast service and the facilities that the hotel offers.

Although we arrived late at night, we decided to go out for a quick drink and we were spoilt for choice with bars and pubs in the nearby area.

Lobby

The lobby of the hotel is actually quite nice, bright and spacious. You have plenty of seating areas to choose from. The furniture is soft and comfortable and feels nice to the touch.

There are a few seating areas to choose from. In the lobby area you can also find a travel agent selling various trips and experiences around Malta.

In the lobby, there is a boardroom which you can use and book with the receptionist. The hotel also has a 24-hour shop which is easily accessible from the lobby area.

Hotel Room

The hotel offers rooms and suites which makes it ideal for solo travellers, couples or families. We booked a superior double room for our stay and felt the size of the room was more than enough.

Our room was spacious and the bed was comfortable and offered a good night sleep. During the day, we got a lot of day light and enjoyed time at the spacious balcony.

On each side of the bed there were bedside tables. A desk and a chair and a flat screen TV were also available. The desk was great as we were working remotely and it offered a lot of comfort.

The extra chair and coffee table were a nice addition and we used them more than we thought we would.

In the room we also had wardrobe space with shelves and hangers and plenty of room for our luggage. A full size mirror was also available.

Tea and coffee making facilities were provided as well as an empty glass water bottle. Apparently there are water fountains on all floors but we couldn’t find the one on our floor. It was nice to see a mini bar and a safe deposit box available in the room too.

The modern rooms are perfect for a city break or a business trip to Malta and we were happy with our choice.

Bathroom

The bathroom was a decent size. It was clean and with a walk in shower, large mirror, vanity mirror and towels.

Shampoo and body wash were available from a dispenser. Only one bar of soap was provided and no other toiletries were available in the room.

I personally liked the rainfall shower and the additional flexible hand-held shower head. As expected, a hair dryer was also available in the room.

The downside was ventilation. There were no windows and we didn’t feel the ventilation in the bathroom was sufficient.

Balcony

Yes, the balcony is worth mentioning as it was very generous and totally exceeded our expectations. It reminded us of Hotel Malibu in Mamaia and the huge balcony we had there.

On the balcony we had a table and two chairs as well as two sunbeds. Although we didn’t have a room with a seaview, we had a glimpsed towards Valletta from our balcony as well.

Wellness Centre

We didn’t use the wellness centre although it was located right next to our room on the 8th floor.

This relaxation space includes a sauna, a hammam, a pool and a relaxing area. Covered in winter, the pool uncovers its rooftop to let you enjoy the summer season and the beautiful weather.

We wanted to use the sauna but when we went to check it out, it was cold and perhaps even turned off. We weren’t too bothers about this as we had free access to Aqualuna and this was more important to us.

The opening times are also very convenient meaning you can visit the facilities early in the morning or at the end of the day after exploring the city.

Breakfast at 115 The Strand Hotel

The hotel offers range of restaurants and cafés which will complement your stay in Malta. You have the Grana restaurant and Bookbites on the ground floor and the top floor Seasons Executive Lounge where breakfast is served.

The breakfast experience at the hotel exceeded our expectations. It wasn’t necessarily because of the food but because of the amazing views from the rooftop terrace.

The food was also good and plentiful but the views towards Valletta were the real highlight.

We enjoyed the breakfast and felt there was a good variety of hot and cold food and drinks. Scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, sausages, bacon, hashbrowns etc.; all looked and tasted good. Paul was a bit disappointed that freshly made omelettes/ fried eggs weren’t available though.

Muesli, cereals were offered as standard. There was a good selection of fruits, pastries and delicious sweet treats which we enjoyed very much and sampled with pleasure.

A great variety of cold meats, selection of cheeses, vegetables etc. were available and nicely presented in the cold section of the buffet.

In terms of drinks, water and juices were available self-service. Coffee, tea and other hot drinks were also available but you can only order at your table from the server.

The hot drinks are prepared from a machine and are nothing special. A few days into our trip, we discovered that if you order a single espresso, this is actually made by the barista and the coffee was amazing! Take this as a tip for your visit.

The restaurant offers enough space for the guests but the seats on the terrace get taken quickly.

Loved the terrace and as the weather was nice, we enjoyed breakfast outside.

Access to Aqualuna when Staying at 115 The Strand Hotel

Complementary to all hotel guests, Aqualuna is the place to be to complete your stay at this hotel. In all fairness, getting access to this place is what swayed us towards booking a hotel and not an apartment for our stay in Malta.

We visited Aqualuna three times during our stay and thoroughly enjoyed it. Towels are provided, the food is fantastic and you get to chill and unwind whilst you gaze across the Valletta and Manoel Island skyline.

On our last day, we had to vacate the room by mid-day and we spent the afternoon at Aqualuna. It’s great that there are shower facilities on site and lots of food and drinks options to choose from. Definitely worth a visit.

Make sure to ask for your ticket to Aqualuna at the main reception desk.
