Why We Chose Trendy Hotel by Athens Prime Hotels

In terms of accommodation, we would recommend booking your accommodation through an aggregator such as Booking.com or Agoda to get the best rates. On this occasion, we booked our hotel in Athens via Trip.com.

During our city breaks, we tend to sleep at the hotel, have breakfast and be out and about all day, so we weren’t after luxury accommodation or one with a lot of amenities.

We chose Trendy Hotel by Athens Prime Hotels, due to the following reasons:

  • Good location – central location and walking distance from the Omonia metro station, making it easy to explore the city
  • Good reviews on TripAdvisor
  • Fit our budget
  • Value for money hotel in Athens
  • Reminded us of our hotel in Lisbon

Overall, we had a good experience. The hotel was clean, the bed was comfortable, the room was spacious, breakfast was excellent and we felt it was a good value for money for a hotel in Athens. We share more about our experience below.

How to Get to Trendy Hotel by Athens Prime Hotels

If you are flying to Athens International Airport, you can reach the hotel in 45 minutes (if driving) or in just over 1 hour by public transport. We chose the public transport option.

You can take the Metro Line 3 (Blue Line) from the airport to Syntagma Square. At Syntagma, you can transfer to Line 2 (Red Line) towards Anthoupoli and get off at Omonia Station.

From there, it’s a short walk to the hotel. Alternatively, you can take the Airport Express Bus X95 to Syntagma Square and then proceed with the Metro as mentioned.

Trendy Hotel by Athens Prime Hotels is only a short walk away from Omonia metro station and less than 10 minutes walk from the National Archaeological Museum. Travelling around by public transport is easy, fast and convenient.

You can purchase 90-minute tickets or multiple-day passes, providing unlimited access to buses, trams, and the metro during the validity period. Read more about transport in Athens here.

Check-in Experience

The reception desk is opposite the main entrance and first impressions were positive – clean, modern with a nice but small lobby area. The check-in experience was really smooth and the customer service was great.

We were given all the necessary information about the hotel and the very important PIN numbers to enter our room. Thankfully we didn’t have to carry keys or cards with us, all we needed is to enter the PIN number on the door lock which was great!

In the evening, the main hotel door is locked, so you either enter using a code or you buzz reception to open the door for you.

Lobby

The lobby of the hotel is rather small but you get plenty of day light due to the high windows. The lobby is by the reception and in the same area where the breakfast is served.

The design and style made it look rather posh. Great first impressions and certainly a welcoming lobby area.

Hotel Room

We booked a double room for 2 nights. The room was good size and the bed was comfortable and offered a good night sleep. Unfortunately the pillows were too firm for me but this wasn’t an issue for Paul.

The room was furnished nicely and tastefully designed, with a modern touch and attention to detail. I really liked the nicely looking and bright lights.

In addition, we had bedside tables, a desk and a chair and a smart TV. We really enjoyed the Nespresso coffee machine with free capsules. Complimentary water was provided on arrival but this wasn’t refilled the next day.

By the main door, we had a place to hang clothes and enough shelving space. The room also had a refrigerator and a safety box which we didn’t need to use but was good to have.

To enter the room, you would need your PIN number, so make sure you make a note of this to ensure you can access the room at any time.

Bathroom

The bathroom was modern and fully functional. There was a standing shower and a hand held shower, large mirror, vanity mirror and towels.

The usual shower gel, shampoo and soap were provided as expected. These were of a very high quality and smelled fantastic!

As someone with dense hair, I really liked the powerful hairdryer which is something you rarely get at a hotel.

Breakfast at Trendy Hotel by Athens Prime Hotels

Breakfast is served downstairs by the main entrance. The restaurant is opened to the general public as well which probably explains the high quality food which was a nice surprise.

Food was fresh and offered enough items to choose from to kick start your day.

The buffet breakfast was rich and generous including fresh and tasty vegetables, traditional Greek pastries, Greek yoghurt and olive selection. Cheese, cold meats and different types of eggs were available as normal.

Muesli and cereals were offered as standard. In terms of drinks, the usual tea, coffee, water and juices were available. Filter coffee was included but we decided to buy espressos for that morning kick.

Paul and I absolutely loved the freshly squeezed orange juice (do it yourself). It was so sweet, fresh and tasty. I probably had too much orange juice but couldn’t help myself 😀

The ambience and the setting were great and the restaurant was very welcoming and so were all staff members.

Overall the breakfast exceeded our expectations. The food was great and the friendly and polite staff members that made a real difference.

Final Thoughts

If you are wondering which hotel to stay in Athens, this one could be a good contender. It’s true, we have seen much nicer hotels offering views towards the Acropolis and rooftop terraces but the price was also reflected on this.

All in all, we would stay at Trendy Hotel by Athens Prime Hotels again. For travellers like us, the room was a good size, the location was perfect and the breakfast experience was a great start to the day!

The hotel is conveniently located near good transport links which made it easy to travel around and explore Athens. As we were on a tight schedule, having a metro station a few minutes away was a great advantage.
