Hotel Yitel Premium (Nanjing Road): Location, Comfort & Value in Shanghai

If you are visiting China and looking for a convenient hotel in Shanghai, then Yitel Premium (Shanghai Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street) might be a good place to book for your accommodation.

This hotel offers spacious comfortable rooms, good breakfast, useful amenities and is conveniently located at the world-famous Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street and the metro.

If you’re looking for a mid-range hotel that feels a little more premium, offering both excellent service and a truly prime location for sightseeing and shopping, we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this one.

Why We Chose Yitel Premium (Shanghai Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street)

In terms of accommodation, we would recommend booking your hotel through an aggregator such as Booking.com or Trip.com to get the best rates. On this occasion, and for all hotels in China, we booked our hotel in Shanghai via Trip.com.

During our city breaks, we tend to sleep at the hotel, have breakfast and be out and about all day, so we weren’t after luxury accommodation but wanted a hotel with central location and laundry facilities.

We chose Yitel Premium (Shanghai Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street), due to the following reasons:

  • Great location – walking distance to attractions and easy transport links with two metro stations nearby
  • Good reviews on Trip.com and free cancellation
  • Laundry facilities
  • Value for money hotel in Shanghai

Overall, we had a good experience and would happily return to this hotel. The hotel was clean, the room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, breakfast was good and the central location meant less time travelling and more time immersing ourselves in the city’s vibrant atmosphere.

We share more about our experience below.

How to get to Yitel Premium (Shanghai Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street)

Getting to Yitel Premium from Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) or Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) is quite straightforward, which was a relief after a long journey.

We landed at Shanghai Pudong airport and as we arrived late from Guilin, there were no public transport options available, so we had to take a taxi. It took us about an hour to reach the hotel.

If you’re coming from PVG, the fastest and most efficient way is often the Maglev train to Longyang Road, and then you’ll need to hop onto the metro Line 2 to East Nanjing Road Station. We really wanted to use the Maglev train but our flight times didn’t allow for this.

The hotel is conveniently situated between two metro stations: People’s Square and East Nanjing Road which are a short walk away.

Discover Yitel Premium (Shanghai Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street)

The hotel is near the iconic Xianshi Building. The entrance to the hotel is not very obvious and once you find it, you need to take a lift up to go to the main lobby where you can find the reception desk.

The décor of this first entrance is very interesting with elements of Shanghai’s past.

Check-in Experience

The receptionist was very friendly and helpful although there was a language barrier. We do appreciate the effort to speak in English.

We booked a Business Double Bed Room with breakfast.

Lobby

The lobby is elegantly designed with comfortable black and red leather chesterfield armchairs and sofas. It looks sophisticated and cosy.

Through the lobby, you can go to the hotel’s restaurant where breakfast is served.

Hotel Room

The room was spacious and the bed and pillows were comfortable and offered a good night sleep. After a late night flight from Guiling to Shanghai, this is all we needed and cared about.

We had a lovely and comfortable armchair and a foot rest, coffee table and a desk. If we needed to do some work, then the desk would have been perfect for it. A smart TV and a bed bench was also available in the room.

There was a wardrobe by the bed with enough space for clothes. I was surprised to see bathrobes, which was a very nice touch. The hotel also provides disposable slippers.

Tea and coffee making facilities are also available and we did take advantage of these. We found Nanjing Road to get very quiet after 10pm, so we went to the room earlier than usual and had a hot tea.

One thing we found interesting is the see-through space from the room to the bathroom. It was quirky but thankfully you get the option to dim this. What are your thoughts on this?

Bathroom

As you enter the room, on the right side you have bathroom and a big full size mirror on the left.

The bathroom was a good size with walk-in shower. The usual shower gel, shampoo and body lotion were provided as standard. Hairdryer was also available.

Laundry Room

Laundry facilities were key for us, as we travelled around China with limited luggage to allow us flexibility and ease to move around. The laundry room in the hotel is fitted with washing machines and dryers.

I had my own washing pods and really can’t remember if laundry detergents were provided or not but I assume they were.

Breakfast at Yitel Premium (Shanghai Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street)

Breakfast at Yitel Premium is served in the main restaurant, adjacent to the lobby every day from 7am until 10am. Overall the breakfast was good and filling and offered enough items to choose from to kick start your day.

During our stay, the China International Import Expo (CIIE) was taking place a few minutes away from the hotel and our hotel was full. I remember the first day we couldn’t find a table in the restaurant and had to share with another couple.

Unlike the Ramada Bell Hotel in Xi’An, no live cooking was available but you could still enjoy dumplings and steamed food, noodles and a variety of Chinese vegetables.

I was surprised of myself as I was eating noodles every day for breakfast whilst in China. There was something comforting in this.

You get a selection of dumplings and steamed vegetables; I loved the sweet potato and corn (never thought I would have these for breakfast; it’s usually lunch food for me) and the variety of dumplings.

The dessert section was almost non-existent but there were some desserts by the bread. Rather limited, I must say.

The fruit selection was rather slim with only three types of fruit on offer. There was a small selection of cereals too and two types of yoghurt were available.

Coffee, tea and juices were available. The coffee was from a coffee machine and wasn’t bad.

One thing we noticed, which is also common for other Chinese breakfasts, is that pure water is not available at the buffet. Thankfully the reception staff were always very kind and would give us as many bottles of water as we wanted.

Final Thoughts

We were really happy with our choice to stay at Yitel Premium (Shanghai Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street) and would certainly recommend this hotel.

The unbeatable location meant we could easily stroll to the Bund in the evening or catch a quick train to any other district. The comfort and quiet of the room provided a welcome sanctuary after navigating the bustling crowds of Shanghai.

This hotel is ideal for travellers looking for a blend of convenience, comfort, and great location in the heart of Shanghai. Its proximity to major attractions, restaurants and shopping facilities make it a strong choice for both leisure and business visitors.
