If you’re visiting Nuremberg and looking for a conveniently located hotel, NH Collection Nürnberg City is worth considering.

This 4-star hotel is a short walk from the main train station and within walking distance of the historic Old Town, making it a practical base for exploring the city. We enjoyed our spacious double room, the relaxing sauna and steam room, and a varied and delicious breakfast.

Overview

We stayed at NH Collection Nürnberg City for one night during our Interrail trip around Europe. After an overnight train from Budapest, we wanted somewhere close to the station where we could freshen up, explore Nuremberg and enjoy some time in the spa before continuing our journey.

This hotel fitted those plans well. We booked a double room and particularly appreciated the spacious layout, comfortable bed and tea and coffee facilities. The sauna and steam room gave us the chance to relax in the evening, while a generous breakfast buffet set us up for the following day.

If you’re looking for a hotel in Nuremberg, Germany, that combines easy train connections with somewhere to unwind, this is one we would happily recommend. Our unexpectedly early check-in made the stay even better.

Why We Chose Hotel NH Collection Nürnberg City

Location was one of our main considerations. We were arriving early in the morning and staying for just one night, so being close to Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof, the main railway station, made practical sense.

The spa facilities were the other deciding factor. We deliberately booked hotels with spas at selected stops on our Interrail route, giving ourselves opportunities to rest between train journeys and busy sightseeing days.

It’s easy to fill every day of a trip like this with things to see and do. Having a sauna and steam room back at the hotel gave us a reason to slow down for a while. For this particular stop, the combination of station access and a spa was exactly what we wanted.

How to Get to Hotel NH Collection Nürnberg City

The hotel’s address is Bahnhofstraße 17–19, 90402 Nürnberg. It is a short walk from Nürnberg Hauptbahnhof: the hotel’s directions suggest under five minutes, turning right onto Bahnhofstraße when leaving the station. Allow a little extra time depending on your platform and luggage.

If you’re flying, the U2 underground line connects Nuremberg Airport directly with Hauptbahnhof. From there, you can walk to the hotel. We arrived by train, so we didn’t use the airport connection ourselves.

The hotel sits just outside the historic Old Town, giving you access to both the station and the city sights. For ideas on how to spend your time, see our guide to things to do in Nuremberg.

How far is hotel NH Collection Nürnberg City from the Nuremberg Christmas market?

The main Christkindlesmarkt takes place on Hauptmarkt, the central market square. The hotel is approximately 1.2 km, or 14 minutes; we would allow around 15–20 minutes, depending on your pace and the crowds. This makes it a practical option for a Christmas market break, although you won’t be staying directly on the square. Our own stay was at Easter.

Check-in Experience at Hotel NH Collection Nürnberg City

We arrived early in the morning after travelling overnight from Budapest. Our plan was simply to leave our luggage at the hotel and head out exploring until our room was ready.

To our surprise, the receptionist offered to check us in straight away. We were very grateful, as it meant we could have a shower, change and enjoy a coffee in our room before setting off for the day.

After a night on the train, those small comforts made a real difference. We could start sightseeing feeling refreshed, and the helpful welcome left us with a very positive first impression.

The hotel currently lists standard check-in from 3 pm and check-out by noon. Our early arrival was accommodated on this occasion; early check-in is subject to availability.

Lobby & Public Areas at Hotel NH Collection Nürnberg City

The lobby was spacious, with a lobby bar and plenty of room as you entered the hotel. The family-friendly atmosphere was noticeable from the start.

We visited over Easter, when the hotel had organised activities for children and adults, including egg painting, puzzles and games. These were a lovely seasonal touch and made the public areas feel welcoming.

If you’re travelling as a family during a holiday period, it’s worth asking what activities are planned for your dates. The Easter activities were part of our experience, rather than something we would assume is available throughout the year. Light refreshments were also available in the lobby area.

Room Overview at Hotel NH Collection Nürnberg City

Our double room was exactly as described when we booked. It felt bright and spacious, with a comfortable bed, a flat-screen television, a desk and a comfortable armchair.

We particularly liked having enough room to move around and somewhere to sit away from the bed. There was also plenty of wardrobe space for what we needed during our short stay.

A complimentary bottle of sparkling water was provided, along with tea and coffee-making facilities. We certainly took advantage of those after our overnight journey. Being able to enjoy a coffee in the room before heading out was very welcome.

There was also a minibar stocked with drinks and snacks. These were chargeable, so keep that in mind if you’re tempted to help yourself.

For our one-night stop, the room had everything we needed: space to settle in, a comfortable bed and the practical facilities to get ready for the next part of our trip.

Bathroom

The bathroom was clean and a decent size, with a bathtub and good water pressure. We especially appreciated being able to have a proper shower after the night train.

There was a main mirror and a separate vanity mirror, along with shampoo, shower gel, hand wash, towels and a hairdryer. Everything we expected was available, and we found the bathroom straightforward to use.

Our room had a bathtub, so if that matters to you, check the bathroom details for the particular room category you book.

Breakfast at Hotel NH Collection Nürnberg City

Breakfast was another part of the stay we really enjoyed. The restaurant was spacious, and the buffet offered a wide selection of hot and cold food, pastries, fruit, salads and drinks.

The hot selection included Nürnberger bratwurst, a savoury potato dish and roasted vegetables.

For a cold breakfast, there were platters of sliced meats and cheeses, cereals, bread and rolls. We also had plenty of choice among the fruit, salads, olives and other accompaniments. The brightly coloured eggs were a cheerful addition during our Easter stay.

The pastries had their own display, with several varieties to choose from. It was the sort of buffet where you could put together a lighter breakfast or settle in for something more substantial before a day out.

The drinks selection was equally varied. Alongside the self-service coffee machine, there were juices including orange, apple, cranberry and blackcurrant, plus water and cucumber-and-mint-infused water.

Everything we tried tasted fresh and delicious. We left well fed and ready for the next part of our journey: a day trip to Rothenburg ob der Tauber.

When comparing room rates, check whether breakfast is included. We enjoyed it, but the difference between room-only and breakfast-inclusive prices will depend on your dates and booking conditions.

SPA & Gym Facilities at Hotel NH Collection Nürnberg City

The SPA was one of the main reasons we booked, and it delivered exactly the break we had hoped for.

In the evening, Paul and I used both the sauna and steam room, then spent time in the quiet relaxation area with heated loungers. After the overnight journey and a day exploring Nuremberg, it was a welcome opportunity to rest.

Towels were provided in the spa, so we didn’t need to bring our own. Water and tea were available too, and the showers were clean and well maintained. Those practical details made the experience easy and comfortable.

For a city hotel, we thought it was a very good spa. It worked well as somewhere to unwind during a sightseeing trip, which was precisely how we wanted to use it.

There was also a gym next to the spa. We didn’t work out during our stay, but it looked a decent size for a hotel gym, with the equipment we would expect for a short session.

If the wellness facilities are a deciding factor for your booking, confirm the current opening times and any access charges for your chosen rate.

Final Thoughts

NH Collection Nürnberg City worked very well for our one-night stop. The location suited our train journey, the double room gave us plenty of space, and the spa helped us relax before another day of travelling.

We particularly appreciated the early check-in. Being able to shower and have a coffee after the overnight train was a thoughtful welcome that made our day much easier. The Easter activities added a family-friendly touch, and breakfast was a satisfying way to finish the stay.

The main location trade-off is that you’re staying near the station rather than directly on Hauptmarkt. For us, that was a sensible choice, especially with luggage and an onward journey the next morning.

We would recommend this Nuremberg hotel to travellers arriving by train, couples who would enjoy an evening in the sauna and steam room, and families who value a welcoming atmosphere. We would certainly stay here again.
