Where to Stay in Dubai: Our Gevora Hotel Review

If you’re looking for a four-star hotel in Dubai with spacious rooms, skyline views and a convenient location near the metro, Gevora Hotel Dubai might be on your shortlist.

We booked a Superior Sheikh Zayed View Room for our stay after visiting Japan, drawn by the hotel’s reputation as the world’s tallest hotel and the chance to enjoy Dubai’s skyline from the pool.

Overview

There was plenty we liked, particularly our large room and the swimming pool, which we used every day. However, a disappointing breakfast, a tired kitchenette and some very frustrating waits for the lifts meant the stay didn’t quite live up to our expectations.

Is Gevora still the world’s tallest hotel? It held the title when we stayed, but that has since changed. Gevora stands at 356.33 metres and became the record holder in 2018. Ciel Dubai Marina opened in November 2025 and now holds the Guinness World Record, with a confirmed height of 377.127 metres. Gevora is therefore best described as World’s Tallest 4-Star Hotel.

Why We Chose This Hotel

The main reason we booked Gevora was quite simple: we wanted to stay in what was, at the time, the tallest hotel in the world. Dubai felt like the right place to try something like this, and we were happy to pay a little extra for the experience.

The price was higher than we would normally have wanted to spend, so our expectations were fairly high. We weren’t expecting everything to be luxurious, but we did expect a four-star hotel with such a well-known claim to get the basics right.

When deciding where to stay in Dubai, transport was another consideration for us. We planned to spend much of our time exploring the city, so hotels on Sheikh Zayed Road appealed to us for their metro connections.

Gevora’s location near Financial Centre station made it a practical base. The swimming pool was another deciding factor, particularly because we could use it in the evening after sightseeing.

How to Get to Gevora Hotel

Gevora Hotel is on Sheikh Zayed Road, close to Financial Centre Metro Station on the Red Line. The hotel is about 3-4 minutes walk to the metro station and we found the metro convenient for getting out and about during our stay.

If you’re arriving at Dubai International Airport, Terminals 1 and 3 have Red Line metro stations, so you can travel to Financial Centre without changing lines. Check the operating hours against your flight arrival time, particularly if you land early in the morning.

If you’re comparing hotels near Dubai Mall, Gevora’s metro connection is useful: Financial Centre is one stop from Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station. For us, access to public transport was one of the hotel’s strengths and something we would consider again when choosing accommodation in Dubai.

Check-in Experience at Gevora Hotel

We arrived from Japan early in the morning and left our luggage at reception before heading out to explore Dubai. This allowed us to get on with our day without carrying our bags around.

We returned in the evening to check in, and the process was fairly straightforward. There wasn’t anything particularly memorable about it, but we collected our luggage and made our way to the room without any issues with the check-in itself.

Lobby & Public Areas at Gevora Hotel

The lobby area is nice and spacious and feels luxurious as soon as you entre through the doors.

Our strongest memory of the hotel’s shared spaces is, unfortunately, waiting for the lifts. This was easily the biggest annoyance of our stay and affected far more than simply getting to our room.

Whether we wanted to go down for breakfast, head out through the lobby or visit the swimming pool, we often found ourselves waiting. At busy times, it felt as though the lifts couldn’t cope with the number of guests using them.

On one occasion, we waited more than 15 minutes just to go to the pool. Even when a lift arrived, there was no guarantee there would be space for us to get in. We spent far too much time hoping the next one would stop at our floor and have room for us.

It might sound like a small detail when you’re looking at hotel photos, but it became a regular frustration. If you’re planning busy sightseeing days or popping back to your room between activities, it’s something to bear in mind.

Room Overview at Gevora Hotel

We stayed in a Superior Sheikh Zayed View Room, and the space and views were two of the things we really liked about Gevora Hotel.

Our room was very spacious, with a large bed, comfortable armchairs and huge windows overlooking Sheikh Zayed Road and the surrounding skyline. We enjoyed the views both during the day and in the evening, when the city lit up.

There was also a flat-screen television, a dressing table with a mirror, and a desk with a chair. Having proper seating as well as the bed made the room feel like somewhere we could relax between trips out.

In the entrance hallway, we had a wardrobe, space for our luggage and a full-length mirror. Keeping our bags in this area was convenient and left more room in the main sleeping and seating area.

The room even came with a kitchenette, although we didn’t use it. Unfortunately, this was also where the wear and tear was most obvious. The kitchen units looked tired and dated, with visible chips that hadn’t been repaired.

It was disappointing to see this in a hotel we had paid extra to experience. We loved the space and the views, but the kitchenette needed some attention.

The bathroom was fairly average, with a bathtub, a sink and a toilet with a bidet facility. It didn’t have the same appeal as the room’s views, but it covered the usual essentials.

The hotel provided shampoo, shower gel and small amenities such as vanity kits. There was also a hairdryer and a vanity mirror. Overall, it was a fairly standard hotel bathroom, with nothing that particularly stood out to us.

Breakfast at Gevora Hotel

Breakfast was one of the more disappointing parts of our stay. For a four-star hotel in Dubai, we found it underwhelming, particularly given the price we had paid.

There was a cooking station where we could order omelettes and other types of eggs, alongside a reasonable cheese selection and some fresh vegetables. The hot-food selection leaned towards Indian dishes, with many vegetarian options.

That selection may suit your breakfast preferences, but it wasn’t quite what we had hoped for. Overall, the quality and variety felt below what we expected from the hotel.

We particularly enjoyed the pitta breads, and the coffee was OK too. There were things we liked, but breakfast certainly wouldn’t be a reason for us to book Gevora again.

Hotel Facilities at Gevora Hotel

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool was, by far, our favourite part of the stay. The open-air pool deck had lovely views of the surrounding skyline, and we spent time here every single day.

Before booking, we had specifically checked the pool opening times. We wanted somewhere we could enjoy after exploring Dubai, so evening access mattered to us. Coming back for a swim with the city around us was exactly the sort of experience we had hoped for when choosing this hotel.

The pool area also has a lounge and shisha deck where you can order drinks and snacks. This makes it an option for spending a little longer enjoying the views, rather than just coming for a quick swim.

If evening swimming is also a priority for you, confirm the current pool opening hours before booking. The lounge and swimming pool can have different operating times.

Gym and Wellness Facilities

The hotel also has a gym, sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi. We didn’t make much use of these facilities, as we much preferred spending our time at the swimming pool.

They are useful extras if you like to fit in a workout or some time to unwind during a city break, although our recommendation is based mainly on the pool we actually used.

Gevora Hotel Restaurant: Highest View Lounge & Restaurant

Another highlight was dinner at Highest View Lounge & Restaurant, at the top of the hotel. The skyline views made this a memorable place to eat, and we would consider visiting for dinner even without staying overnight.

Paul ordered the mixed grill, which was excellent. The meats were well cooked and juicy, and his meal was the better of our two choices. The king prawns were good too, although less memorable than the grill.

The service was generally fine once things got going, but we waited quite a while for someone to take our order. It was another occasion when the setting impressed us more than the efficiency of the experience.

Even so, we would recommend considering the restaurant for the view. If you like the idea of seeing Dubai from Gevora but aren’t sure about staying here, dinner could be a good way to experience it. Book ahead and check the current menu and opening arrangements.

Final Thoughts

Our stay at Gevora Hotel was a mixture of things we really enjoyed and some basic disappointments. The spacious room, city views, convenient metro access and swimming pool all worked well for our Dubai visit. We also enjoyed dining at Highest View, especially for the setting.

However, the breakfast fell below our expectations, the kitchenette needed maintenance, and the lift waits became very frustrating. Paying a little extra for the World’s Tallest 4-Star Hotel made those shortcomings harder to overlook.

Would we stay again? Possibly, but the main reasons would be the pool, the room size and the location. We would compare the price carefully with other hotels nearby before deciding.

If you’re choosing a hotel on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai and those features are high on your list, Gevora is worth considering. For us, the pool was the strongest reason to return, and we would only book again at a price that made the compromises feel worthwhile.
