About Hotel Cismigiu
Location
Hotel Cismigiu is nested in the north-central part of Bucharest being in close proximity to many amenities and attractions. Thanks to its central location, excellent services and facilities, this hotel is a great contender for anyone looking to do a city break, remote work or business travel.
Dating from 1912, this polished Art Nouveau style hotel is a 5-minute walk from the public parkland of Cișmigiu Gardens, short walk to the Old Town and 7 minutes’ walk from the National Museum of Art of Romania.
You just have to step outside the hotel and you will have a lot of beautiful sights to admire. Read our recommendations about things to do in Bucharest.
History
It didn’t always used to be a hotel. Beforehand the area used to be fairly residential with affluential people living there. It’s only in the 19th century with the sudden Western influence that the Queen Elisabeta Boulevard came to be.
Modern buildings at the time meant this boulevard became very elegant and the need for a hotel in the early 20th century meant that Hotel Cismigiu was erected in 1912. The building of Hotel Cismigiu has been declared a historical monument.
The hotel was one of the most modern hotels in Bucharest at the time. Several Romanian writers and personalities also stood here.

How to get to Hotel Cismigiu
Bucharest enjoys the presence of 2 airports. However, there is one main airport, Henri Coanda – Otopeni (OTP) which handles most of the traffic. Many flights come here every day and due to the high passenger turnover, many airlines practice competitive pricing.
Flights can go for as little as £30 return from London. Can differ based on where you call “home”. To find the best value fairs, read this article on how to find cheap flights.
Other ways of coming to Bucharest include by train and by car and can be quite easy ways in, depending on where you come from.
Assuming you flew in, you have multiple options of reaching the hotel. You can get bus 783 from the airport to Piata 21 December 1989 Bus Stop and after a short walk, you will reach the hotel.
Although public transport is a viable options we would suggest getting a taxi. Taxis in Bucharest are fairly inexpensive and tend to be fast and reliable. On this occasion, we took a taxi from the airport to Hotel Cismigiu and it only took us 30 minutes door to door.
Discover Hotel Cismigiu
Although a historic building, the interior has been completely renovated, and the apartments are modern and chic. The elegant suites consist of a bedroom, living room and some even have a kitchen to ensure a pleasant 4 star experience.
All of the hotel rooms are suites with an area between 40 and 55 square meters, depending on the type of accommodation you pick.
Superior Suite
Includes: 40 sqm, sofa-bed, courtyard view
Executive Suite
Includes: 50 sqm, boulevard view, some with kitchen
Deluxe Suite
Includes: 55 sqm, kitchen, boulevard view
This makes the hotel a perfect candidate for anyone considering a business trip or a city break.
If you are to consider the Executive and Deluxe Suites, then that could also add to the extra comfort of preparing yourself a little fruit salad or sandwich in between your meetings or before popping out.
The Lobby
As we entered the hotel, we were impressed by the architecturally rich lobby and other period features that bring a certain flare of a bygone era.
Check-in Experience
Our experience at check-in was great and the Front Desk Manager greeted us with a smile and answered all our questions. Although we arrived fairly late at night, he still maintained a very professional and welcoming attitude.
We then took the lift up to our room. There are two lifts, which we found to be a bit narrow so do plan your luggage load-out accordingly. During check-out we even took separate lifts.
Tip: As with other hotel lifts, do keep your room card with you at all times, as you will need this to operate the lifts.
The Executive Suite
On this occasion we stood in the Executive Suite with a balcony view. The suite was very Art Nouveau, clean and overall neutral.
It didn’t feel that something was too overwhelming. The design of the room felt tasteful and in a way, we felt at home.
The layout of the suite was in an L shape with the entrance being at the top of the L and the lounge at the lower part. The connection hallways provided ample space for our suitcase and hand luggage without hitting the walls.
Bedroom
The bedroom was nice, clean and tidy, although no more spacious than most hotel rooms. However, when one thinks of the overall surface you get in your Suite, the perspective suddenly changes positively.
The double bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. In fact, we had a very comfortable sleep.
In the bedroom we had a flatscreen TV, comfortable armchair, luggage rack and a spacious wardrobe with shelves and hangers, safety box and a bathrobe. For some reason, only one bathrobe was provided but we didn’t mind it that much.
We found the Juliette balcony overlooking the boulevard to be a wonderful addition to the room as we were able to enjoy the view in all its glamour.
Initially we thought the room might be a bit noisy, given the boulevard, but actually the windows are well insulated and you don’t hear anything.
Living Room
This place was spacious! We particularly enjoyed the sofa and armchairs in the lounge.
Together with the table and bar section of the room, we can definitely see here potential to enjoy a coffee in the morning before heading for breakfast or even doing some casual work before your meetings.
The armchairs were wide, soft and comfortable, one can get lost in them. The sofa bed was similar to the sofa at home and I almost fell asleep whilst watching TV 🙂
On the other side of the living room, there was a round table with four chairs, a cupboard with a fully stocked minibar fridge and a little coffee table with a coffee machine on it. This place is perfect if you are planning to work remotely.
We actually did a few hours of work after breakfast and can definitely see ourselves working from the hotel, if we were to stay for a longer period of time.
During the day, the lounge area is bright with a lot of natural light coming through the windows and the balcony.
We found the Juliette balcony overlooking the boulevard and the Cismigiu Gardens to be a wonderful addition to the living room as we were able to enjoy the view whilst sipping on our coffees.
Bathroom
The bathroom was clean and spacious with a walk in shower, large mirror, vanity mirror, towels and cosmetic products.
One aspect we enjoyed was the fixed rainfall shower head but also the flexible hand-held shower that was also available.
Hallway
We wouldn’t usually mention the hallway, but this one deserves a separate section. As you enter the suite, you come through this big hallway with art on the walls and a full-size mirror. Perfect for those looking to take one last glance before hitting it off to the Bucharest night life.
Additionally, in the hallway we had a storage place where you can find an iron and ironing board, disposable slippers and other such typical hotel kits. I can see them useful especially if you brought over a few shirts.
Hotel Amenities
Here are some of the amenities at the hotel, that we thought are worth mentioning:

- Parking is available at the hotel’s private underground parking
- Fitness and gym facilities
- Front desk & security 24/7
- Rooftop terrace where breakfast is served at Bistro La Etaj and a cosy, old-world eatery in a brewery called The Gambrinus Beer House.

Breakfast at Hotel Cismigiu – Bistro La Etaj
Breakfast is served every day Monday-Friday: 7:00 AM to 10:30 AM, Saturday-Sunday, from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM. This is served at Bistro La Etaj on the top floor and you can choose to eat at the rooftop terrace whilst admiring the views of Bucharest from above (more below).
We enjoyed the breakfast and felt there was a good variety of hot and cold food and drinks. Scrambled eggs, sausages, cold meats, vegetables, a selection of breads and pastries all looked and tasted good.
There was a nice selection of fruits, fresh watermelon, cheesecake and freshly baked pastries which we enjoyed very much and sampled with pleasure.
In terms of drinks, a coffee machine was available with freshly ground coffee and a selection of espresso, americano, cappuccino, latte etc. If you prefer tea, a selection of teas was also available.
There was a hydration station with still and sparkling water and a variety of juices to choose from.
By the time we went to breakfast, I felt the scrambled eggs were a bit too well done for my liking so I asked for a cheese omelette to be done fresh. The omelette was good and cheesy – just the way I like it!
May I have a Coffee with this View?
As the name may suggest this bistro is located at the top floor of the hotel. It opens up into a wonderful rooftop terrace overlooking Queen Elisabeta Boulevard.
We only enjoyed breakfast on this occasion however, the Bistro is opened throughout the day offering good food and cocktails to guests.
Whilst some building can be work in progress, one can see great views of Cismigiu Park, the Bucharest Town Hall, The Parliament and the Grand Cathedral.
Pink, Pink and More Pink
The inside décor is again art-nouveau however, unlike the room which we found to be colour neutral, this bistro is pink. And we mean bright pink.
And if that isn’t enough you also get a contrast with the fixtures which are bright gold. Really sets the scene for an 80’s style candy shop-like look and feel.
It a very unique place that really stands out. Perfect for some Instagram photos 🙂
